Membership

CHARTER MEMBERS:

Charter members of this society shall be all ethical dentists practising in the city of Calgary on February 5, 1914.

MEMBERSHIP:

Persons eligible for membership shall all be ethical dentists registered in a Province of Canada.

1) Active Members

Any registered ethical dentist licensed to practice in Canada shall become an active member of the Calgary and District Dental Society upon payment of annual dues and shall be entitled to all the privileges of membership.

2) Senior Member

A senior member shall have had thirty years as a practicing dentist with five years as a dues paying member of the Calgary and District Dental Society. They shall have all the privileges of the Society including committee membership.

3) Retired Members

A retired member is any dentist who is no longer actively practicing Dentistry. They shall have all the privileges of the society including committee membership but shall not have the right to vote or hold elected office.

4) Life Members

Life membership may be conferred on a dentist who has rendered outstanding service in his profession. The life membership may be conferred only on the following procedure:

  1. The candidate for Life Membership shall be proposed in writing by two active members by a notice of motion at a meeting of the Society.
  2. At a subsequent meeting of the Society a two-thirds majority vote by ballot will be required to pass the notice of the motion.
  • When a member has maintained active membership in the Society for a period of fifty years he shall receive Life Membership and an appropriate plaque without the above procedure being followed.

5) Honorary Life Members

A suitable presentation or plaque may be awarded by the Society to a member of the Society or other person who in the opinion of the Society has made a significant contribution to the welfare and objects of the Society.

  • Proposals for honors or awards shall be submitted by two active members of the Society and their proposal shall be submitted through the Secretary in writing to the Committee of Honors and Awards who will investigate the proposals and make the recommendations to the Executive of the Society for further action.
